Border’s Deal is dead

The borders deal is dead.  They have been having tons of site issues and orders have not been going through.  The coupon was meant to be $5 off a total purchase of $5 or more.

Borders Book Deal!!

I found out about this deal at Money Saving Mom (thanks Crystal!) and it turns out it’s an even better deal than I originally thought by reading Crystal’s post.

When you use the code BR41925 at Borders.com, it takes $5 off of the price of EACH regularly priced book in your cart. If you choose to have the items shipped to your local store for you to pick up, then there is no charge for shipping.

I loaded my cart with 20 childrens books that were priced under $5, and it took the price of all of them off, making my total $0. I couldn’t complete my checkout with my total at $0, so I added one more book that was priced at $6.95. It took $5 off off of that book as well, making my total $1.95 for 21 books. With a total above $1 (I tried with a total of $0.99 and it did not work), I was able to complete my order and got a confirmationemail.

The site seems to be a bit bogged down (no doubt because there are so many people there shppping for this deal), so if you get an error message (or two or three), just hit the back button and try again. It works if you give it some time. :)

More free gifts for my girls for Christmas. I love this kind of shopping!

Ben and Jerry’s Deal

Ben and Jerry’s: $0.99 TeaZer–July 29, 2008

Teazer_htmlpage
On Tuesday, July 29, 2008 you can get a refreshing 20 oz. Ben and Jerry’s Iced TeaZer for only $0.99. It’s the newest scoop shop concoction featuring a blend of white tea, hibiscus, and a ginger kick.

This was sent out to the Ben and Jerry’s email list and is also advertised on their website here. It should be valid at all locations nationwide; however, as always, call your store ahead of time to confirm they are participating.

Ok, the Walgreens deal got better!!!

The deal just got better!! Ya know that little July booklet with the $5 off 2 coupon in it that you picked up in the front of the store? That coupon expires on July 26. The little booklet for August is coming out on July 25, and has another coupon for $5 off of 2 packages of diapers in it.

What does this mean?

3 packages diapers @ 5.99 each = 17.97
less July $5 off 2 coupon = -7.50
less Aug $5 off 2 coupon = -7.50

Pay 2.97 for 3 packs of diapers. Get back $5 coupon to use on your next order!

Whoa!!!

Now, the caveats. Many stores don’t put out their August booklets until the July booklets expire, even though they overlap. But Walgreens will have the August booklet up on their website, and you can print the August coupon and bring it into the store with you. Here is the link to the page where it will be on July 25 (it’s not there yet):

http://www.walgreens.com/store/rebateclub.jsp

The other caveat is that occasionally, a store will refuse to scan both coupons. Corporate policy is that you CAN use both coupons but some managers like to make up their own rules. If that happens, just try a different store (or a different shift at the same store).

“Baby Bargains” by Denise and Alan Fields

I have to write a review of the book “Baby Bargains” by Denise and Alan Fields. I bought this book a few months after getting pregnant and I deemed it priceless!! It was one of the best books I read while pregnant. I used it to build my baby registry and to buy products before our daughter came. The authors have field tested every major brand and even some of the lesser known ones, to determine product quality and usefulness.

Each chapter focuses on a type of baby item such as cribs, strollers, bedding, clothing, car seats, etc.. Each item is reviewed for features, safety and quality. Then, they give the item a star rating. At the end of the chapter a review is done on the products in the chapter and the top picks are presented in a clear and easily readable format. They also present a list of “wastes of money” for items in each chapter. This includes items such as high end shoes for a newborn and other luxury items you don’t need. The book presents you with must have items for rearing a baby at different price levels. You need to take into account that what the authors deem the best product, may not be the best product for your family. You have to read all of the information presented and make your decision based on the information given and your needs and budget.

In addition to all of the information they have in the book, they also have an online forum where parents can talk about all types of baby products.  The forum is separated into multiple boards, so if you are specifically looking for information about car seats, you can just click on that forum.  It is very neat and organized.  It is well worth your time to visit and gain some new information on baby products.

The Baby Boards:  Baby Bargains and Baby 411

Free baby, kid and maternity items near you!

In 21 cities across the county, and two dozen more to come, parents are giving away baby, kids, and maternity items.  Freepeats, is a new website that allows parents to post up items they want to give away to a new home.  On this site you can get gently-used baby, kid, and maternity items like clothing, high chairs, bouncers, swings, bikes, formula coupons, new cans of formula, and toys for free from other parents who have finished with them. It’s also a way to get rid of baby cast offs without having to load up the car (and the kids) and take them to the thrift store.

The site is organized into forums where you can post your offers and view the offers of others.  In each post you can see in the title what the item is and where it is located.  There is a $4.95 one time membership fee, but if the forum for your city is less than two weeks old, you can get free membership if you sign up during that time.

This is a great concept, and I hope to see it expand to all areas of the country.  There are many parents out there who are willing to give items away instead of throwing them in the trash.  What a great way to keep items out of our landfills!!
